Thanks for visiting Oyster Seed Holdings!
If you are new to our site, Oyster Seed Holdings (or OSH for short) is a hatchery company on the growing edge of shellfish culture. We have been providing premium quality oyster larvae & seed for over 16 years out of our location at Callis Wharf, Gwynn's Island. Our mission is to serve the entire shellfish industry not only in high-quality seed production, but also through our R&D department to evolve hatchery production techniques, and also in our advocacy efforts to build community around aquaculture.
You may be wondering what baby seed look like, so here's a few pictures up close.
We grow a lot of seed here, in fact, from 2009-2018, we produced 1.2 billion seed and 7.2 billion larvae to farms along the East Coast.
One of our mission that we've been putting a lot of energy into these past few years is advocacy, education and stewardship. OSH advocacy strives to build community around, and promote the environmental sustainability of, shellfish culture through consumer experiences. We host public hatchery tours, participate in community events, interface with schools for field trips, and operates a food truck-style oyster eatery called “The Hatchery.”
